I am. . .           Ashanti Johnson

A native of South Carolina, Ashanti A. Johnson emerged from a family of artists. Raised in Syracuse, New York, Johnson began earning critical recognition of his artistic gift as early as age 12.

Ashanti furthered his education at Syracuse University. During his years at Syracuse, Johnson was an artist in residence, which gave rise to a senior year group exhibit with his brothers, Richmond and Tru Johnson at the Everson Museum in Syracuse.

His work stylistically follows the tradition established by Charles White, where representational imagery is seen as the best means of conveying cultural identity.

Among other murals, Johnson was the lead muralist on "The Atlanta Wall of Respect-Atlanta" at Piedmont & Auburn Avenue and recently, "The Emmaus House Mural".
